Hello Folks
My name is Christopher Clickner and I have been on the Sales team here at Hampton Ford Hyundai for the past 2 years. I was born in Wareham, Massachusetts in 1980. I have one brother named Jeff who was born in 1983. My mother Patti was a single mother who raised us alone through adulthood.
She always worked very hard to make sure that Jeff and I had the best childhood possible. Years ago, when my mother was in high school she played softball. During a game she slid into second base and tore some ligaments in her left knee. After years and years of surgery, it finally came to the point where the wound would not heal. It finally got to the point where the pain was so intense the numerous pain medications that she was on would not subdue the pain. So, the team of Doctors asked her what she thought about amputation? After some thought she agreed, she just wanted the pain to be gone and move on with her life. In 1995 she had her leg amputated.
After a few months she began rehab on her leg, then to get off the heavy medications she had been on for years. My brother and I at that point were living with my grandfather in Bourne, MA. After a few months we started looking into the prices of a Handicap conversion van, so that travel with my mother would be comfortable and even possible for that matter. But, after looking for months on end there was just no way that we could afford a van that was handicap accessible. After a few years went by we were able to afford a used one that still ended up costing around $39,000.00.
In October 2009 while I was at work I was approached by Mike and Lindsey Mantell. They had been searching for a handicap accessible van for months and they too found that for the most part a van (depending on the brand) fully up-fitted, runs somewhere in the $50,000.00 range. I began to discuss with them the all new 2010 Ford Transit Connect, a light duty 4 cylinder delivery van. I explained to them that Ford had just launched this all new van in the last 6 months and that this vehicle may be converted into a handicap conversion van.
I explained to them the up-fit options available to them, the price it would cost and how long it would take. One thing that puts the Ford Transit Connect above all other competitors is the actual vehicle price. The Transit Connect ranges from $20-$24,000.00, depending on the stock options and the trim level purchased (XL, XLT). I discussed all of this with Mike and Lindsey that afternoon and gave them all the relevant information, they were very excited! Within a day they came back and we discussed things in more detail. I shared my personal experience regarding my mother and my family circumstances. I explained to him that I know and understand the challenges that he is going through, because my family has been there. This gave us a sort of ?unsaid bond?. I was there not to just to hopefully provide them with the right vehicle that suited their on needs but also to listen to his own story.
Mike and Lindsey then explained to me that they had been searching around for months and that they had been looking all over the country. The typical price range fully up-fitted was around $50,000.00. Mike decided on a rear mounted fold down lift, which can hold almost 500lbs. We also put an Infiniti Sound System in, and I-Pod Jack, Stereo, wall mounted sub-woofer, all weather floor mats, Konig Rims with all season tires. We also had a power outlet put in (just like in your home) so he can watch movies on his laptop while on trips and keep it charged or to even plug his cell phone into! He has a remote for his stereo so he can control it from his chair in the rear of the van. We decided on E-Z Locks for the floor to hold his chair down, and had a custom shoulder belt made. When you look at this list, your first thought is ?that seems like a lot of stuff. The truth is I was able to get everything listed here and a couple other things for about $32,000.00! I was able to get him everything that he wanted and was able to save him almost $20,000.00!
If you, or anybody you know needs/wants a Handicap Up-Fitted van, I would love to help you! The All New Ford Transit Connect is ?bar-none? the most affordable van on the market. I am familiar with the all the features this van has to offer as well as the up-fitting options/products available. Take a look here at the before and after pictures, it looks amazing!
